Rye Congregational Church is pleased to announce the Fifth Annual Abendmusik Fine Arts Concert Series. Abendmusik is a German word meaning an evening concert, usually held in a church. There will be three summer concerts, each followed by a gala reception in the church Fellowship Hall at which you'll have an opportunity to meet the artists.

The summer schedule will be:

Saturday, July 23, 2011, at 7:30 PM

Lt. Col. T. Shane Tomko USMC, Pianist and Vocalist, will play the opening concert of the summer, celebrating the five-year anniversary of the series.  Shane Tomko brought down the house when he played the first concert on the series’ new 7-foot Schimmel concert grand piano, in 2008. A one-man musical powerhouse, Shane Tomko has performed for Presidents Reagan and Clinton, the White House, National Cathedral, and other venues around the world.  Presenting an eclectic range of music, in the Classical, R & B, and Gospel styles, Shane Tomko will also include many of his own arrangements and compositions.

Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 7:30 PM

Sirens’ Song, Melinda McMahon, Mezzo-Soprano and Angelynne Hinson, Soprano, present “With a Song in our Hearts.” Acclaimed for their irresistible, consummate duet singing, the Sirens will also perform in collaboration with Aliento Chamber Players, Mary Towse-Beck, piano; Karen Luttik, clarinet; and Dorothy Braker, violoncello. This beautifully developed choral bouquet in a lovely chamber setting will feature solo works by Schubert and Brahms and duet works by the Mendelssohns, Dvorak, and Beethoven. Splendid midsummer music- please join us!

Saturday, August 13, 2011, at 7:30 PM

Paul Dykstra, Concert Pianist, will conclude the summer series with masterworks by Liszt, Ravel, Chopin, Bach, and will include Beethoven’s entire “Moonlight” Sonata. Paul Dykstra is a Canadian born and trained pianist with concert credits all over North America. Collaborative performances include touring with Porgy and Bess (NYC Live Arts) in Florida, Trinidad and St. Louis; world premiere recording of Sonata for Clarinet and Piano by Seacoast composer Roger Rudenstein (with Richard Stoltzman on clarinet); and numerous concerts with Cellist, Beth Pearson.  A remarkable pianist, Paul Dykstra is also a performance adjudicator in both Canada and the United States, and a member of the college of examiners of the Royal Conservatory of Music.

TICKETS for each of the three summer concerts are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Children 12 and under are free. Tickets are now on sale in the church office and Sundays after church in the Fellowship Hall. For more information call Ellen Simmonds at 436-0079 or Patti at the church office at 964-4061.
