Abendmusik Fine Arts at the Rye Congregational
Church is pleased to present:
GEORGE WINSTON
George Winston plays over 100
solo piano concerts a year in America and beyond, inspired by the
seasons. These concerts
feature a variety of styles, including his melodic folk piano, stride
piano, New Orleans R&B piano, Vince Guaraldi’s Peanuts pieces,
songs by The Doors and more. The two solo piano shows that he
plays,
always in a state of evolution, are the Summer Show (spring &
summer songs) and the Winter Show (fall & winter songs). He
also
currently plays solo guitar concerts, solo harmonica concerts and
solo piano dances (with R&B, slow dance songs
and more). His new CD is entitled LOVE WILL COME – THE MUSIC OF
VINCE GUARALDI, VOLUME 2.
He
returned to New
Orleans R&B with the rollicking "Pixie," so full of
sound that two hands hardly seemed enough to produce it. With its
walking bass line and right hand syncopation, the number generated
enough energy to light up the city of Lawrence. No doubt many in the
audience came to hear Winston's more introspective tunes, but there
were also those who wondered, "If he can play stride and R&B
like that, why would he ever play anything else?"
– Dean Bevan, Journal World
“George Winston’s
melodic folk-style piano has been his signature sound for more than
30 years.” – Richard Freedman, Oakland
Tribune
“Pianist
George Winston’s music cuts a broad swath in both style and
substance.”… “George Winston prefers to spend most of his time
on the road, finding greater contentment in a concert setting than a
recording studio.” “His concerts are always a blend of
performance and philanthropy, with a canned food drive held at every
show to benefit a local food bank, and portions of his merchandise
sales donated to those organizations as well.” – Naila Francis,
The Intelligencer
“Innovative,
celebrated and accomplished, Winston is the real deal.” – RAB, Toledo City Paper
